Madras Musical Association

MMA Profile

The Madras Musical Association Choir, now in its 130th year, has a distinguished history of presenting music across a wide range of genres, including Classical, Spiritual, Jazz, Pop, and Broadway musicals. One of its greatest contributions has been its enduring role in promoting Western classical music in Chennai.

The MMA Choir has collaborated with choirs across India and internationally, and is often sought after for presenting challenging musical works. With over 80 members from diverse backgrounds, the choir brings together a blend of young and experienced voices. Many choristers are trained musicians with credentials from Trinity College of Music, London, and ABRSM, and several have gone on to form ensembles and new choirs of their own.

Each year, the choir presents four to five major concerts and concludes the season with the much-loved Carols By Candlelight, now in its 65th consecutive year. The MMA Choir has performed at major international venues, including the Sydney and London Olympics, and has presented concerts across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The choir is accompanied on the piano by Jeremiah Christopher and conducted by Augustine Paul, whose leadership continues to shape its musical excellence.
